Chemische eigenschappen

1,1-dimethoxy-2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexeen is een kleurloze tot lichtgele vloeistof met een frisse, fruitige citrus Grapefruit-Peel-achtige geur. Het is niet in de natuur gevonden. Het wordt voorbereid door Reactie van 2,2,5-trimethyl-4-hexenal (vanisobutyraldehyde en prenyl chloride) met methanol in aanwezigheid van calciumchloride.
Vanwege de alkalische stabiliteit wordt het gebruikt in citruscomposities voor zeep en wasmiddelen.
